Behind PARTYDOORS with Ladie B

LADIE B’s debut single, PARTYDOORS, tells a story that’s all too relatable. What happens behind closed doors?  Pulling poetic influences from Lorde and the unserious rap and energy from Doja Cat, this single finds its roots in a personal experience: an open mic event that turned into an unplanned party. An all too relatable feeling for a 20-something year old.  As she began to snoop around she noticed each room was empty leaving her with the thought “Where the fuck am I?”

This particular thought and event became the foundation for PARTYDOORS. A jazzy hip hop beat with velvety vocals, LADIE B adds her touch with unapologetic fierce rap that catches you off guard. With this particular story, she shines a light on how LA party culture chases the idea of standing out instead of just  being themselves and that often leads them to blending in with everyone else. This story feels all too familiar, leaving you with the feeling of surrealism .

"What inspired me to create the single was an open mic that I went to," LADIE B shares. "I think it was my third or fourth open mic ever as LADIE B, and it kind of just devolved into a party. It was some empty apartment filled with so many rooms, but all of the rooms were empty. That really struck me. I was exploring, snooping around, and thinking, ‘What’s going on behind these doors?’”

Growing up in Santa Clarita, LADIE B has honed her craft as an artist in many fields. A former child actor, she didn’t always know music was her calling. She even recalls being told by a childhood friend that she was off-key while singing in the car. But a small part of her always dreamed of being a rockstar—she just hadn’t opened that door all the way.

"I always had music in the back of my mind," LADIE B explains. “When I was a kid, all I did was make music videos on apps like Video Star,” she says. “Music has set me free. You open yourself up, you feel vulnerable, and you run with it.”

Inspired by a  Bob Ross’s quote, “there are no mistakes, just happy accidents,” LADIE B leaned into the messiness of her journey. Tired of waiting for opportunities, she took charge, performing at open mics and submitting her work to events like Pop Hangs. (A networking event based in LA.)

"I was tired of waiting," she says. "When you’re an artist and you don’t get to express yourself, it leads to really intense depression. I was searching for myself in all the wrong places—in other people."

Her perseverance paid off. After performing PARTYDOORS at an open mic, LADIE B caught the attention of LA-based filmmaker John Stapp. Inspired by her performance and storytelling, Stapp proposed the idea of creating a music video for the track. “We got on a call, and I told him about the experience,” LADIE B recalls. “I had this idea to play with [Alice in Wonderland]—how she followed her curiosity and fell down the rabbit hole. It was an adventure, but there were also many questionable characters with malicious intent.” She also provided insight on how the Max hit tv-show Euphoria, adds a special element to the aesthetic of the music video with.

The Alice in Wonderland and Euphoria-inspired music video, released in October 2024, brings the story of PARTYDOORS to life. With a tight schedule and a small team of three, LADIE B and Stapp created a video that takes you on an all too familiar story, pulling inspiration from typical house parties and revealing how it can just fill a void for a lot of people.

Watching Ladie B perform is an experience in itself. There’s a sass and confidence that’s entirely her own, a blend of vulnerability and playfulness that sets her apart. She doesn’t care about fitting into boxes.

"I don’t care about genre or censoring myself," LADIE B declares. "I talk my shit, I have fun, and I’m very cutesy about it." She adds, "I don’t want to be a rapper; I want to rap. There’s a difference."

Her debut single is just the beginning. LADIE B’s first collaboration, “Contemplate”, a track with Valley-based rapper Apollo Davar, is set to release later this month.

With “PARTYDOORS”, LADIE B proves she’s more than an artist; she’s a storyteller, pulling listeners into her world by being unserious, sassy, and having fun. LADIE B is a visionary, being 21 years old, she is truly authentic to herself. Understanding that we are always in a state of finding ourselves, I have no doubt she will continue to grow and shock us with her wide array of talents.
